Hit The Lights robbed now too!

Didn’t have too much time on this yesterday cos we had a plethora of shows, but here’s my two-bits worth.

So when The Menzingers were robbed we wanted to help out how we could.  When The Skints were messed up too, we wanted to help how we could.  We were kinda like, “well we cant do this again…” but when a band on our label - and we’re their home in the UK - get fucked over by, lets face it, organised crime.  well, we have to help

Here’s Nick’s statement on http://nickythom.com/

Now, here’s the thing.  Its not like they were being dicks. They’ve been screwed over by a professional thief.  Yes, we the punk community need to change our ways.  Tour managers, bands and promoters need to find a way of stopping this happening.  Sooner or later these appeals will run out of steam, and bands might have to pay more to tour the UK, which puts up ticket prices etc etc, BUT RIGHT NOW A BAND WE LOVE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

We have an appeal available at Banquet, and one way you can help is to buy the album from us.  We’ll give £5 of the £7 purchase price over to the band at their Kingston show on June 2nd.   GO TO http://www.banquetrecords.com/HTLappeal FOR THE INFO

Show them some love at Slam Dunk, and the tour, and especially the Kingston gig as a send off.
And if you find the crook who did this,  tell him he’s gonna need a bodybag.

HELP THE SKINTS -

theskints:

Hello tumblr! I imagine if you follow us on here you already know about what an awful weekend we’ve had. Our van was taken outside one of our homes containing all of our equipment.. Naturally we are devastated. 5 years worth of collecting amps and instruments, Marcia’s dresses and shoes, the boy’s suits and of course the van itself has all been harshly taken away and we have nothing. It’ll take a long time to get back on our feet again but if there’s one thing that could make this better, it’s the overwhelming support that you have shown us. Your generosity has given us a little faith that for every scumbag there are 15,000 other people who are kind, generous and thoughful. To top it all off, the Kingston kings Banquet Records got in touch with us as soon as they heard. They have set us up a donation page and arranged a fundraiser which we will be playing on the 20th May. Click the title for details and watch this space. With or without our instruments we are still THE SKINTS and we will not be beaten by this. All gigs are going on as scheduled, see you there, and remember to keep ordering from our Merch Store!

The Menzingers: So.. We were robbed in Manchester last night... -

themenzingers:

Ok so here’s what happened…

We played a sold out show at The Moho last night in Manchester which ended up being the absolute best show of tour. Seriously! Stagedives, singalongs, shots of mystery liquors.. It was one for the books. An afterparty started to form at a bar down the street. In…

RSD queries etc

oh hi

We’re pushing 1000 RSD online orders at the moment.  its the week late online tsunami following the earth shaking shop experience of Record Store Day in the shop last week.

Here’s the thing.  we’ve had LOADS of orders.  We are also a real record shop, and we’re still putting on loads of gigs in this time.  And hey, we’re also real people.

To people who’ve ordered something online at 2AM on Saturday morning and are getting pissed they havent had a reply by midday Sunday in reply to how you put in the wrong credit card information, address, have changed your mind or you didnt realise that someone else bought you that record, or you’ve seen the ebay prices for selling them on arent as good as you wanted , YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT

I dont think its unreasonable to wait until the next office day for a reply.  I dont shop at Amazon, but even if they did have 24 hour customer service on such things, well, you cant get this stuff on Amazon, we’re not Amazon, we’re not trying to be Amazon.  Just be a little curteous to the people working hard to get this stuff out to you as quick, but as protected and with as high a level of service as possible.?

Simple queries can often be used by, looking for yourself on the online orders page of the site, or a quick yes/no anwer can oft be got by @banquetrecords on twitter

If you have queries, remember to quote an order number and as much information as possible.  Emails saying “did you get my order” just delay everything so much.  Also, you’d be surprised how much a please and/or thank you go.

Thanks to those to whom the above is all very obvious.

FWIW, RSD was amazing.  The video shows it all pretty well i reckon.

Jhon's blogsgrove.: The Gran National. -

this is a confusing read.  but its pretty funny.
but also, in the satire, is the point that its 2012 and there’s no place for this anymore.

Plans are afoot and a broken leg for next year’s Grand National to be changed to the more exciting, mouth watering and piss soaked pant-wetting ‘Gran National.’ Animal charities have today, yesterday and every other day been up in arms about stupid fucking horses dying every year at the equine…

Banquet’s Big Day Out Of Our Comfort Zone

did we even talk about the festival yet?

For literally years we’ve been talking to people about doing something like this.  Those people come and go.  Most of the people that come are from breweries and not music fans, but something’s come alright this time round as the people behind the already running Happy Days Festival, have given us complete runnings of their site on June 4th, and we bring to the world BANQUET’S BIG DAY OUT

Its exactly as the name suggests.  Its the people from Banquet running an outdoor event with many of our favourite bands playing at the most convenient nearby location which doesnt have stupid Kingston only licensing rules.

Imber Court, on Ember Lane, is not only a spelling nightmare, but also an appropriate venue for the day.  Its a bus ride from Kingston, or train to Esher station.  Parking there is sensible.  The £20 ticket for this is a steal.  I always think we underprice loads of our shows, but i just dont want anyone to be priced out of this…  Im real happy with the bill.  I think we had a top 20 list of bands on the wish list when we started talking about this.  And 13 of them are in and confirmed for the Bank Holiday event.

There’s a few more that we’re not announcing until next week, but already we’re talking Kids In Glass Houses, Wheatus, The Skints, Neville Staple from The Specials, David Rodigan, Deaf Havana, The Computers, JoFo, The Lagan and many more.

As with all these things, its completely driven by music, but it is also now a part of the business.  We’re a long way out of our comfort zone, but the drive of Jane, Mike and Salty particularly is something which makes doing this all so good.

There is SO much to do.  Its like 4 months of new slangs all at once.  Its fair to say we’re out of our comfort zone, but the chance to do something as rad as this and on such a scale is something that we cant turn down.  The day we do turn down such an opportunity, is the day we should all retire.

Get involved, tell your friends, tell your parents, tell your kids.  There really is music for everyone (the age of the artists alone ranges from teenagers to 60+ legends) and it should be a really good vibe.

Hope it doesnt rain.
